Biography

Roots in Okpe

Deacon Chris Iyovwaye is a son of Aghalokpe, in Okpe Local Government Area, in the heart of Delta Central. He was shaped by the everyday realities of ordinary Delta families: the dignity of hard work, the strength of community, and a faith that treats every neighbour as kin. Those roots remain the compass of his public life.

A Builder by Trade

By profession he is an industrialist. As Chief Executive of the Wellmann Group of Companies, he has spent his career building enterprise: creating jobs, meeting payrolls, and turning ideas into working ventures. That experience left him with a simple conviction. Value is created by discipline, systems and people, not by noise. Government, he argues, should be run with the same seriousness: clear targets, honest books, and results you can measure.

A Man of Faith

An ordained Deacon, Chris Iyovwaye carries his faith into public life not as a slogan but as a standard. He holds that leadership is a trust and a stewardship, never a trophy, and that those who seek office must answer to the people who grant it.

The Call to Serve

After years of building in the private sector, he answered a different call: to place that same discipline at the service of Delta State. In 2027 he steps forward as the consensus governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, offering, in his own words, a credible alternative built on respect, humility and true leadership rather than rulership.

Leadership Philosophy

Leadership, Not Rulership

“To lead is to serve. Public office is a trust, not a trophy. Every naira, and every decision, must answer to the people who granted it.”

Deacon Chris believes good governance is the disciplined alignment of resources, people and purpose toward outcomes that improve lives. It is not about grand gestures, but about consistent, measurable delivery: roads completed, schools functioning, clinics stocked, jobs created. It is about a government that reaches all the way down to the community, the ward and the household rather than stopping at the capital.

His approach rests on three convictions: that government must be transparent and accountable; that prosperity must be broadly shared and reach the grassroots; and that leadership must be rooted in integrity and faith. These are not slogans. They are the standard by which he asks to be measured.

Why Delta, Why Now

The Case for a Working Delta

Delta is rich in people, energy and enterprise, yet too many of its communities are still waiting for the dividends of that wealth. Deacon Chris believes the state has every ingredient to become a leading industrial and commercial hub in southern Nigeria, if it is led with vision and run with discipline.

His seven point agenda to bridge Delta’s development gap puts industry, jobs and the dignity of the ordinary Deltan at the centre. He has pledged to restore the dignity of the average Delta indigene, and to be measured not by what is promised, but by what is delivered.
